KOHLHAAS
2022
Kohlhaas is a Hungarian novella that was adapted as a stage play. My concept for this story was to bring attention to the largest coerced migration that happened in the human race history- Transatlantic slave trade.
KOHLHAAS
A story deserving of more recognition
My desire to explore further into my cultural background that encompasses the African culture while finding the right concept to enhance the narrative of 'Kohlhaas' was the dominant internal and external examinations during the conceptualization phase of this project.
The leading character 'Kohlhaas' makes decisions that permeates his people to suffer; whether his intent was full of self-content or for the good of others, his decisions eventuates as catastrophe and chaos to the community.
I wanted to delve into that decision-making Kohlhaas did through the lens of the Trans-atlantic slave trade. This slave trade was the largest slave trade of the African continent and has brought immense consequences continental-wide, but the effect soared to be also inter-continental.
I wanted to focus on the conflict and injustice that shadowed upon the ingenious people while emphasizing the paramountcy of this historical undertaking.
