CONCEPT STATEMENT
A Play that Embodies Happiness and Sorrow
The approach to 'Tiny Beautiful Things' was to capture the various emotions embedded to the play. People from different backgrounds and stories yet all tied to together, in other words, the underlying unity of humanity of the plot was the essential concept throughout the design and execution process. Although different characters hold different scars and beauties, the human world is connected under the setting of love and learning driven by the power of healing.
The aim of this set was to create a congenial and cozy environment where all characters can come and express their life journeys in a comfortable manner.
Just as how children turn to hideouts to explore their feelings, I wanted the world of 'Tiny Beautiful Things' to have that same quality. A welcoming and cozy place where all peoples can come and share their stories brazenly and unashamedly.
